What is Naked DSL
We’re often asked “what is naked DSL?” and despite the slightly dodgy sounding name it is simply a term for a DSL internet connection without a phone service. DSL stands for digital subscriber line and naked DSL is such a line with no phone service attached. Naked DSL plans give you a broadband connection but there’s no need to pay a monthly phone rental making them a great option for those who don’t need a home phone line and want to save money on their broadband bill. In simple terms naked DSL plans are those which offer only a broadband (naked broadband) connection with no phone service and no need to pay phone line rental.
What is Naked ADSL
So what is naked ADSL? Most companies will offer naked ADSL and this will be the actual service offered by many advertising naked DSL deals. DSL refers to all types of internet connections delivered over a copper line which includes ADSL. ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) refers to a service that has different upload and download speeds which is the case with most broadband providers (download speeds are usually the headline speeds quoted and upload speeds are usually much slower).
Naked ADSL2+
Naked ADSL2 and Naked ADSL2+ describe naked broadband services with ADSL2 or ADSL2+ technology which allow greater broadband speeds. ADSL2 is a more advanced form of ADSL which uses updated equipment at both the telephone exchange and at your end of copper line supplying your broadband connection. ADSL2 allows two lines to be ‘bonded’ together which facilitates the faster speeds. If you live a long way from your telephone exchange (the further you live the slower your broadband speed usually is) ADSL2 will be a better option than standard naked ADSL. ADSL2+ allows even faster download speeds of up to 20Mbs in theory.
