Cable Broadband Providers
Access to the internet using DSL broadband services has been the most popular form of broadband access in Australia for quite some time but lately the technological advances made by cable companies has made them a more worthwhile choice for many. These advances are now turning cable broadband into a formidable rival when it comes to the speed and reliability of the cable broadband line. In order to compete with ADSL broadband large areas of Australia have now had fibre optic cabling rolled out by cable broadband providers, which not only makes them faster than their rivals but means that they will soon be able to compete for coverage.
Who are cable broadband plans suitable for?
The fastest connections and the best possible price are the two main areas users usually look at. For cable broadband the speed of its service is now even faster than the best ADSL2+ broadband plan that is currently on offer and the cost of the cable broadband plans are still good value for money.
Another factor that will affect who will use broadband cable plans is location and whether users are able to get cable broadband services in the area in which they live. Although not quite as widespread as ADSL yet cable broadband has expanded its coverage areas over the last year and can now offer fibre optic broadband services to a significant proportion of the Australian population.
This simply means that cable broadband plans are suitable for any user who needs the fastest and one of the most reliable broadband services around, although they will need to check and make sure they can get cable in their area before they subscribe.
Comparing cable internet with its rivals
The constant and rapid advancement of broadband services in Australia are changing the competitive edge that ADSL and cable interent have over each other all the time. At the moment cable has pushed ahead of ADSL when it comes to broadband speed although ADSL still has the lead on national coverage. Cable broadband still offers a unique service with its services running over fibre optic cabling, whilst ADSL still uses the copper wire telephone network to provide its broadband services, although this too may soon change. The forthcoming National Broadband Network will soon see ADSL providers offering super-fast broadband services using a fibre-to-the-home broadband network. This, however, is a few years away and the foundations of cable broadbands’ fibre optic network have already been laid so there will still be plenty of time for cable providers to improve both their connection speeds and the national coverage they currently offer.
The only other competition that cable broadband providers have is with other types of broadband providers like mobile or satellite broadband providers, which offer a totally unique service in that they provide far higher levels of coverage but are limited in the speed of the broadband services they offer users.
All this means that cable is currently one of the most powerful services available and in its current technological position it looks like it will continue to be so for some time to come.
